Now also acne treatment with monopolar radiofrequency needling in the derma competence center in Zurich Enge with Dr. Hero Schnitzler.

Acne is a disease of the sebaceous glands. It occurs most frequently during puberty but can also persist in adults known as acne tarda (adult acne).

Painful red pimples, some of which are filled with pus, appear on the face, back and décolleté. In women, this situation often worsens at monthly intervals.

The reason for this an overproduction of sebum in excessively large sebaceous glands. These glands become clogged, enlarged, and eventually burst. Migrating bacteria cause the inflammation. Acne scars may appear after the pimples have healed.

Until now, a reduction in sebum production could only be achieved with tablets (isotretinoin). This often leads to severe side effects. The therapy may therefore be undesirable or must not be carried out, for example if the patient is trying to conceive.

The monopolar radiofrequency needling treatment acts specifically on the sebaceous gland.

This novel method of radiofrequency needling is a combination of radiofrequency and microneedling. The isolated needles used in inflammatory acne reach the sebaceous glands lying within the skin. Radiofrequency waves are directly delivered to the sebaceous glands through them. This results in heat generation and shrinkage of the sebaceous gland. The reduction and atrophy of the sebaceous gland promote the healing of acne.

Subsequently, there is a reduction in inflamed pimples over time.

Other advantages of the treatment method:

  • The treatment is virtually painless after the application of a local anesthesia creams. Following this, the slightly irritated skin is soothed with the integrated cold hammer method in the device. There is no downtime for the patient.
  • In addition to treating acute acne, this system is successfully used to clarify the skin, reduce pore size, and diminish blackheads. However, the combined radiofrequency needling therapy has been proven effective for years in smoothing the skin, reducing wrinkles, and diminishing scars, especially acne scars and stretch marks.
