Some unwanted tattoos can be particularly persistent and cannot always be fully removed using conventional laser devices. Dr. Hero Schnitzler at the derma competence center, a dermatology practice and laser clinic in Zurich, also encounters this challenge from time to time.

Despite having access to four different laser systems for removing dark and colored tattoos, there are still limitations to what can be achieved.

This state-of-the-art laser can therefore remove even resistant tattoos completely, gently, and quickly.

To overcome these boundaries—and true to his reputation as a perfectionist in laser medicine, striving to offer patients fast and complete removal of all tattoos, whether colorful or black-blue—the derma competence center has now expanded its range of lasers to include a state-of-the-art picosecond laser.

Pico lasers operate with ultra-short pulses in the picosecond range and deliver high energy densities in a very short time. This allows the target pigment to be shattered with minimal heat spread to the surrounding tissue.

This effect is based on a combination of photoacoustic effects (conversion of light energy into acoustic energy) and photothermal effects from what is known as selective photothermolysis (conversion of light into heat), a fundamental and long-established principle in laser medicine.

Thanks to this cutting-edge technology, even resistant tattoos can now be removed completely, gently, and quickly—with fewer treatment sessions.
