The Dermatologist at School – A Special Kind of House Call!

As part of the theme, “What Job Do My Parents Have?” Dr. Schnitzler joined his 8-year-old son and his son’s classmates in Class 3a at Amlehn School in Kriens.

Dr. Hero Schnitzler, MD, head of the derma competence center, a dermatology and laser medicine practice in Zurich Enge, visited a local elementary school to talk about his profession.

I really enjoyed introducing the young audience to the profession of dermatologist.

Both the students and Dr. Schnitzler thoroughly enjoyed the experience. He explained to the young audience how one becomes a dermatologist, where dermatologists can work, the location of his practice in Zurich, and what it looks like inside, including the various rooms, equipment, and lasers.

Using a model, he taught the young listeners about the structure of the skin and its functions. Dr. Schnitzler also talked about routine mole checks and let each child examine their own moles using a dermatoscope. He discussed common skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis, along with the various treatments available, such as laser procedures and when surgery may be needed.

Dr. Schnitzler emphasiized that a doctor’s learning journey never ends. Just as daily school attendance is essential for children, continuing eduation is mandatory or doctors. He shared photos from his raining in lase medicine andm finally, taught the students about skin cancer prevention. He explained the importance of sun protection and gave each hild – and the teacher – a free sunscreen.
